If I Lived a Different Life Each Month…
This is how I’d spend February
What if we spend our free time creating the life we want? A dream life?
That’s my goal with introducing monthly lifestyle adventures 🦋
Life is more than just a day job!! So. Each month, I’m picking one area of interest to pursue (outside of my necessary job) and reporting on the process - the good, the bad, the unexpected. Today (2.3.26) marks the first month I’m trying this, so I’m sure there will be lots to learn along the way!
I’m SO excited to reveal…
Drum rollllllll, please 🥁
…This month, I am living as a novelist!
I know, I know - millions of people want to write a book. Although, how many actually do? Besides, this really isn’t about what everyone else does. This is about me having an idea for a book and thinking it would be really fun to actually put that idea on paper. I know I won’t be writing an entire book in a month (especially the shortest month), but I want to get a feel for the process and lifestyle. This gives me a chance to determine if I want to pursue writing a book or just let that idea fly out the window.
Why pursue being a novelist?
I have a few reasons, actually. One) the aforementioned idea has been consuming my thoughts for a couple of years now and it’s time to free up some computing space. Two) I really like having something tangible to show for my creative pursuits. It’s something I can look at and think, “wow. I made that.” Three) I want a challenge. I want something that’s going to require discipline and intentional effort. I want the artistic equivalent of a runner’s high.
What’s the plan?
Learn from the best!
Research habits of famous authors and determine if I want to adopt any of those habits
Re-read my notes from Save the Cat! Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody
Read tips and tricks from Substack authors
Actually write
Dedicate time each day toward writing my book. It can literally be one sentence, I just have to write SOMETHING
Nurture my creativity - I believe my body and mind are deeply connected
Some form of exercise/movement each day (thankfully I already do this most days, so this isn’t really a change, but now I have an even bigger reason not to skip)
Incorporate “inspiration breaks” into my week. Maybe this is a walk in nature (it’s cold so IDK), maybe it’s baking, maybe it’s arts & crafts. I just want some type of activity that will allow my thoughts to flow.
That’s all! Should be simple, right? (Definitely not, but a girl can dream). I’ll report back.
If you’re a writer and have any advice, feel free to drop a comment 💙
