Friday Flutter Report 2.6.26
I love being reminded that I have great taste ;)
When I was younger, I rarely re-read books. I would re-watch movies all the time, but it never occurred to me to re-read books. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized just how much I was missing. Maybe you’re missing out too 🤷🏻♀️
This week, I finished re-reading one of my favorite comfort books (Book Lovers by Emily Henry 💙). This is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve read it, but I’m still pulling new insights from the pages and giggling to myself as I wiggle my shoulders.
Re-reading this book served so many purposes:
It was a beautiful and fun escape from the cold and the horrors.
It was a reminder that reading can just be fun. Plain and simple. I think society puts soooo much pressure on reading being educational that it can feel frivolous if you aren’t “trying to better yourself” or “expanding your horizons” (to be clear, I do believe books are essential to education, but they don’t have to only be about education).
Ironically, the fun approach to reading actually led to ideas for my “I’m pretending to be a novelist” project. So, I guess that does make it educational???
This sounds weird, but it was also kind of a cool connection to my past self? To the version of me who read the book for the first time and thought, “wow, I enjoyed this.” Time moves forward and parts of us change, but it’s really fun to see the parts that stay the same too.
Moral of the post - revisiting things that bring you joy is not only okay, but a great way to feel both comfort and inspiration.
See you next week!
