Friday Flutter Report 12.5
Switching things up a bit
This is still an experiment and I’ve decided to change the format for this week’s (flutter? flap?) report (I like both idk). While I enjoy writing the day-by-day play-by-play, I’ve found it’s not quite accomplishing what I want and it’s too broad. The inspiration for this Substack name is the butterfly effect, that one small action can change your life. Therefore, I want to move the flutter/flap report to a singular focus from the week - a reflection on one action and it’s impacts.
🔹Morning Pages X Love Letters🔹
This week’s favorite action has been the mashup of two ideas - which I adore separately - that together have formed one ✨glorious✨ habit that I pray I can maintain. Each morning, I sit down to complete Morning Pages (inspired by The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron) but with a twist! (oooo, ahhh)
Instead of the proposed process of 3 handwritten, stream of conscious journal pages, I incorporate a love letter to myself (inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert) among the pages. I write the letter from God, but it can be from anyone (including your future self). I let my thoughts fly until I get my bearings, then I’ll switch to the love letter. Some days the ramblings are longer than the love letter, some days the love letter takes up all three pages.
Why I’m loving this
🔹 Starting the day with creating something makes me feel like I’m starting with a win
🔹 It helps me get into a positive mindset
🔹 Being your own hype woman is actually pretty fun
🔹The perks of getting a few random thoughts on the page before switching POVs is I gain clarity on what I need. Do I need reassurance? Confidence? Kindness? I can incorporate that into the love letter.
🔹 No screens for three whole pages!!!
🔹 I feel like I’m on the edge of an epiphany when I write these pages
All you need is a notebook and writing utensil of choice! You can even use a small notebook, it doesn’t have to be anything excessive. Start by writing whatever comes to mind, then switch to writing the most kind and uplifting letter you can imagine for yourself. Remind yourself that you are enough and full of light. Whatever fills you with joy, put it on the page (Elizabeth Gilbert’s page also has several prompts that can provide good starting points).
That’s all for today! Happy flapping 🦋
